The first issue of STLR for 2023 contains a new series of Masterclasses that aim to provide the readership with access to tuition from leaders in the field. Aspects of clinical assessment, decision-making, planning, and operative technique will be covered. The Masterclass will be produced by authors who are experts in the field and who are invited to contribute by the team designated to manage the section. The Section Editor of the Masterclass series is Professor Hemant Sharma of Hull University, and he is supported by Neil Eisenstein, Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Royal Army Medical Corps at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine in the UK, and Selvadurai Nayagam, Emeritus Editor in Chief of this journal. The first Masterclass sets the template for the future; it describes a procedure not performed frequently in limb reconstruction surgery and yet needed in one’s armamentarium. The style of content within these articles, with a high number of images together with tips and pitfalls throughout, will serve to guide the surgeon who is unfamiliar and may benefit even those who are practised. It is the intention that the entire scope of limb reconstruction surgery and those aspects of trauma relevant to this field will be considered.
